About Red Mill Haunted Village
An independent magazine about haunted attractions, Halloween and home-haunt gear. Here is who we are, how we work and how the site is funded.
Red Mill Haunted Village is an independent online magazine about haunted attractions, Halloween and the gear that makes a home haunt work. We write practical guides for two kinds of reader: people planning a night out at a haunted house, and people building something spooky of their own.
Independent, not official
This website is not operated by, affiliated with or endorsed by Red Mill Museum Village in Clinton, New Jersey, or its Haunted Red Mill event. We do not sell tickets. For official dates, prices and rules, visit the museum at theredmill.org.
Why the name?
The Red Mill in Clinton was built around 1810, and the museum that now cares for it stages a haunted attraction each October. It is the kind of place that makes people fall for haunted attractions in the first place, and it gave this site its name and its starting point. We cover the event as interested outsiders, in our independent visitor’s guide, and we point readers to the museum for anything official.
What we cover
- Haunted attractions: how to plan a visit, what scare levels mean and what to expect.
- Halloween guides: planning timelines and family-friendly ideas.
- Haunted house props: fog machines, animatronics and effects, explained.
- Decorations and lighting: outdoor displays that look good and stay safe.
- DIY home haunts: layouts, budgets and build-it-yourself scares.
- Costumes and makeup: fit, comfort and skin safety.
- Reviews and comparisons: research-based buying guides.
How we work
Our guides are built from research: manufacturer documentation and specifications, guidance from safety agencies and the official websites of the attractions we mention. We link to sources where we can, and we date anything that is likely to change.
We are careful about what we claim. Unless an article says otherwise, we have not tested the products we discuss or attended the events we describe. We do not invent prices, ratings, reviews or testimonials. Short stories on the site are original fiction and are labelled as fiction. The full approach is set out in our editorial policy.
How the site is funded
Some links on this site go to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. Affiliate income does not decide what we recommend. Details are in our affiliate disclosure.
Who is behind it
Red Mill Haunted Village is run by a small independent publisher. Articles are published under the Editorial Team byline, and the publisher is responsible for everything on the site.
